FIG - How to Apply title.png

Before beginning the application process, we encourage interested business owners to review the SFIG guidelines. In this PDF you'll find project requirements, eligibility details, and the expectations for business owners by the RDC.

Please read the following steps before moving forward.

Step 1: Confirm Your Eligibility

Before beginning an application, please confirm that:

  1. Your building is located on Main Street in Sheridan between 1st & 10th Streets

  2. The property is used for commercial purposes or is being converted

  3. You are the owner of the building, or you are a tenant with written permission from the building owner.

Eligible projects typically focus on exterior improvements only.

Step 2: Review the SFIG Program Guidelines Sheet

  1. Learn about eligible and ineligible improvements

  2. Read about funding limits and the requirements for matching

  3. Find design expectations and historic considerations

You MUST read these guidelines in their entirety before moving forward with the application process.

Step 3: Complete the SFIG Planning Sheet

Download the sheet here. Keep in mind, it is a view-only self-assessment to help determine project readiness.

You will not submit this sheet with your application; this planning sheet will help you confirm that:

  1. Your project scope is defined clearly

  2. Desired improvements fall within FIG eligibility guidelines

  3. You are financially prepared to meet the matching requirements

  4. You fully understand permit and documentation obligations

Step 4: Submit the Interest Inventory Online

Once you are ready, submit the SFIG Interest Inventory document online.

This document is the first step in the application process and will:

  1. Confirm your eligibility and readiness

  2. Establish preliminary project details

After you submit the Interest Inventory, the SFIG Organization Committee will review and contact you.

----------

Once the RDC and SFIG Organization Committee determine that your project is a good fit:

  1. You’ll receive an email formally inviting you to complete the full application

  2. You’ll have six (6) weeks to submit a completed application with the required documents

Step 5: Application Submission

You may submit your application online at the link provided by the SFIG Organization Committee or in person at Sheridan Town Hall at 506 S Main St, Sheridan, IN 46069.

Application Check-List:

  • Detailed project description

  • Vendor quotes

  • Reference exhibits (Design drawings or sketches)

  • All required exhibits and documentation

The waiting period...

The SFIG Organization Committee reviews applications and sends their recommendations to the RDC for a final decision at a public meeting.

At this meeting, the RDC may approve, deny, or request further information about your application.

If you are approved, you will receive a written authorization to move forward with your project. You may not begin work until this approval is issued. You will receive a reimbursement after the project has been completed and verified by the RDC and SGIF Organization Committee.

Helpful Tip:

While you wait to begin this process, you’re encouraged to take photographs of the existing conditions of your building, gather estimates, and research neighboring buildings to get an idea of potential designs.
